I have wanted to make this bag forever, but have been too much of a scaredy cat!
It is the infamous Amy Butler Weekender Bag.
I am very glad I did try it....it was not simple, but I have made more difficult things. I think I may have used interfacing that was a bit too light, which made sewing easier than it should have been, but on the other hand I made the bottom out of leather.
I am sorry that I didn't spend longer lining up the pattern on the handles, but I was impatient....have I ever told you about my impatience before!!!?
I did however take time to match the side pieces, and they are still not right....I give up!
My only big issue...almost...was that when I was pressing it after putting the whole thing together....I melted a section of the plastic zipper!!!! I nearly cried, but thankfully when it cooled and hardened again, I was able to break off the melted bits and the shape of the teeth was still intact, just shallower.
I bought the fabric a long time ago from Amanda, she quite often has stash clearance sales.
The pattern came from www.gonetoearth.co.uk along with the heavier interfacing, and the piping cord.
I also managed to finally get the final piece of Anna Maria Horner's, Good Folks fabric from Gone to Earth, which makes up the full set. I bought several of these from her a while back, but I was only short of one she hadn't got in stock.....now I need to decide what to make....definitely a quilt, just not sure which one!
I just love how these all work as a collection, some of them look a bit plain, or a bit bold, on their own, but all together, they come alive.

You already know that I love the bag!
Now the fabric...it's luscious! Can't wait to see what becomes of it.:)
This bag is gorgeous - looks very high end!
Wowzer!
You are amazing and that bag is simply gorgeous, you clever thing!
Ali xx
I love the bag! I saw a lovely version on http://thelinencate.wordpress.com the other day, and she and you between you have totally convinced me to order the pattern!
Oh, my! It's perfection!
Ooof, congratulations on attempting AND finishing the bag! It looks great and I'm sure it will be very useful.
Those are gorgeous fabrics. I wish the prices were more friendly for making clothing - about 2 yards for a shirt. But I'm cheap, heh!
Thanks Cindy...I may look at the fabric a while longer, it is difficult to cut it!
Thank you Justine...I just need somewhere to go...preferably somewhere high end!
Thanks Ali! Very nice of you to say!
Thank you Jo...I hope you enjoy making it, if you do get the pattern. The other bag is gorgeous.
Thanks Medrie....I wish!
Thanks Joy...I have no bag to bring anywhere...not that I'm going anywhere...but just in case!
The fabric is even more expensive by the time it gets here.
I love this bag Millie, you must try and use it!
(for a night away)!
I love the bag, and if you hadn't pointed out the parts that weren't matching, I wouldn't have noticed.
Can't wait to see what you make with the AMH fabric, and to hear what kind of fancy weekend you have planned for the bag :-)
Angela
Thank you Nicole..I am hoping to use it before long...it is just for my things, mind you!
Thanks Angela...you are too kind! We are away to Cornwall with the kids in July, and I may bring this as my bag, instead of stuffing my things in a family sized holdall!
We do the 'family sized holdall' thing too, maybe I need a bag ;-)
You're probably up to your eyes in prep for the communion, but I've passed on an award to you, if you get a chance to play along.

No way can you be THAT impatient if you can create a bag like this. It looks absolutely chic and perfect.
Wow! The bag looks great. What an awful thing to have happen to your zipper though. I'm pretty sure I would have melted down in that moment too!
Thanks Angela!
Go raibh maith agat Mise!
Thank you Val...indeed I nearly did!
When I saw the picture of your beautiful bag, I first thought it was a new purchase! But YOU made it! You really inspire me.
Sorry for such a late comment! Your bag looks great and I didn't notice the handles at all.
I have this pattern too, and have been meaning to make it for ages. I got some lovely oilcloth in Hickeys with the intention of making a nappy bag but I might make a simplified version of this instead.
Thank you so much Louise! Indeed it would have been easier and less expensive to buy a bag!
Thanks Ana. It would be lovely in oilcloth, however it is rather difficult to sew around all the corners and through mulitple layera, so I'm not sure it would be easy. Also it is huge, really too big to carry around everyday, if that what you meant by a nappy bag. Mind you, I never had a proper changing bag.....I just carry a couple of disposables for quick changes when we're out, and a small packet of wipes. My sewing machine would easily fit into this bag, just to give you an idea of how big it is.
