Van Katoen Summer Dresses

I made the two girls two dresses a little while ago. They come from a Dutch company, with Dutch instructions. (I don't speak Dutch!) Unfortunately the pattern is no longer available, but it was a Van Katoen pattern. Both girls chose their own fabrics, and both seemed especially happy with the wonderful pocket at the front!
For those of you who don't know, my girls do not like wearing dreses, but they do understand that there are times when dresses are really needed. These are their only summer dresses, so you needn't expect any more until Winter!

They did however want to try them on for me as soon as they were finished, so I could take a photo.

Today they had reason to wear them, I wish it had been for a happier occasion, but sadly funerals are sometimes the only time when extended families, grown up cousins, and their children get to meet up with each other. We compared children's ages, facial features, heights, eye colours, personalities, and it is always lovely to see how many traits pass from one generation to the next....it is a pleasure to have married into such a lovely family, hopefully there wil be a happier occasion to meet at next time...

Those are such sweet dresses! I love those big pockets - perfect for stashing treasures. I'm sorry they had to debut at such a sad occasion, but it sounds like you made a few good memories in them anyway.

I do so love both of these, Millie, and I'm glad the girls like them too!
Looking forward to making one for Lucy - have fabric chosen already! (but may need to seek your assistance...)

The dresses are perfectly charming, and I can see the appeal of those pockets for non-dress-wearing girls, of whom I too have one.

Thanks Kid MD...I must check the pockets for treasures before I wash them!..It was a sad occasion, but like you said, we will have lots of lovely memories.

Thanks so much katherine h! It was those pockets that sold the pattern to me!

Thank you Jane! I made a Lisette tunic with similar pockets...it's too easy to just leave your hands in there all day!

Thanks Justine..I'm so glad they (sort of) like them too! I can't wait to see Lucy's...give me a shout anytime, I'll help if I can!

Thanks Mise...The pockets do somewhat make up for the fact that it is a dress they are wearing! I'm glad I'm not the only one with non-dress-wearing girls!

Thank you Sadhbh! They do seem to have grown up, and upwards just recently. The loss was not unexpected, but still very sad, he was an uncle of my husband's...one who C was very fond of.

Sorry about the funeral although I'm finding these days part of honouring the person that has passed away is to rejoice in their life and role in the family. I learnt so much about my father's real impact on others at his funeral a few years back.

The dresses are a lovely style and the girls look adorable as always.

Thank you so much Cindy!

Thank you Velosewer...and you are so right. I think especially if family have time to prepare for a loss, then they can really celebrate the person's life. There were so many memories shared over the last few days, it was really lovely to hear them all.

These are adorable! I like the fun fabric combinations. The style is reminiscent of Lisette's Portfolio Tunic.

I love the dresses Millie, and how you combined the fabrics in them? Your girls almost look like they like the dresses?

Those are both classic and distinctive. Adorable.

Thanks Joy...The pockets are indeed very like the Portfolio.

Thank you Angela...looks can be deceiving! They did wear them though...twice!

Myimaginaryblog...Thank you very much!

Love those dresses. Adorable! I miss sewing for little girl Luca. She's kind of over my sewing. On to the popular girls stuff now. Boo hoo.

These are stunning little dresses, and they look so perfectly constructed xx

Sorry for the belated reply Sascha...what a pity that Luca is no longer wearing your home-sewn clothes...you make such lovely things!

Thank you Zoe...it is a great pattern!
