Looking Back on 2011

My sewing machine has been hibernating for the last couple of weeks. The children are off school and I have to compete for space with jigsaws, colouring books, dress-up dolls, Sylvanians...to name but a few! I try not get impatient about this, and go sew in another room, because in a week the children will be back at school, and I will miss them!

So to amuse myself I made some mosaics of my sewing over the past year...

I made these things for myself and some of the other adults in my life.

Sewing for Grown-ups 2011

I made a blouse and skirt for my mother, and a shirt for my husband...both were nerve racking, but the results were very rewarding.

Also in this is a bra, which I wrote about here, and I got a great response about it...which was really nice...all I wanted to do was tell people that sewing lingerie is not that difficult!
I also sewed a swimsuit/tankini for myself...can't remember if I blogged about it, but probably not!

For the children...

Half of Sewing for Children 2011

and

Second Half of 2011 Kid's Sewing

It is funny to look back at all of these clothes. Some have been worn everytime they have been clean and dry...and some sadly have never been worn. I have two very fussy little ladies who refuse to put on certain things...really life is too short for arguements...so I am hoping that they will still fit when the girls grow out of their "I want to be a boy" phase!

When I have not been sewing, I have been knitting a bit...

Knitting in 2011

And of course, I managed to fit in a couple of quilts and quilt tops.

Quilts and Quilt Tops from 2011

The two on the bottom went to two friends' baby boys, and the other two are keepers. The top RH one is on the wall upstairs, and top LH one will be quilted by hand before too long, hopefully!

Thanks to you all for reading along during the year..and I wish you all a peaceful and Happy New Year!

Is the hat with hearts your recent project? I'm always in awe of your sewing, you are one creative lady! I hope that the twins decide to wear the untouched clothes before they are too small to be worn...they are too nice to sit in a drawer.:)

Wow! What a job done! And again - our children get more than we, mothers, do :)
But we are so lucky to have children for whom we can sew and knit!

Incredible work! I really, really want to learn to knit socks. I've tried to teach myself and got too frustrated!

You've done so much for yourself over the past year - I envy that. I'm almost always starting a new project for one of the kids rather than me. And I don't know how you find the time to do as much as you have. My goal this year is to make more for myself - I may even take a stab at making a bra, now that you've shown how easy it can be. I love the things you've knitted, too, especially the socks. Leaning to knit is on my list of things to do this year, as well.

Thanks you Cindy..yes, the hat was made a couple of days ago. I am knitting furiously at the moment! I hope the girls will give in about the clothes too!

Thank you Oksana...that is how it is when you have children, they get looked after first! Also they are quicker to make clothes for!

Thanks Sarah...I wished we lived closer..I could help you to learn to knit socks!

Thanks Justine...how kind of you to say!

velosewer...thank you for your lovely comment!

Thanks so much Medrie. I look forward to seeing your creations in 2012 too!

Thanks Thirza...how very lovely of you to say that!

Thanks for you kind comment Christiane!

Thank you Catherine! (blushing!)

Thanks Jen....I hope you get to make more for yourself in 2012. I am not a very good knitter, but I enjoy trying!

Nicole..thank you! You are very, very kind....would you believe the Village frocks have never been worn! Shameful!

You were so productive last year! It's lovely to see all these crafts at the same time in these mosaics. And don't forget sewing lingerie even this year either. It's so much fun.

I wish you enjoyable moments with sewing in 2012!

A productive year! And the collages show how colorful your sewing has been (:
Here's to another creative year!

Blimey! That's a very impressive tally and blows mine out of the water! Did you do a post on the pleated pinafore with the contrast facing or the tankini? They are both so cute.

Millie said...

Thank you very much Annele. Hopefully I will get to sew some new lingerie this year. I will need some new bras soon.

Thanks Joy...I think it is interesting to see what colours I used. I imagined it differently! Wishing you another creative year too!

Thank you Kathryn. To be fair, you achieved an awful lot this year, just not all of it sewing! An awful lot more than me! Very inspiring!
The pinafores are Fiona Pinafores, from Figgy's patterns. I blogged on 14/9/11 and the Tankini was blogged on 29/7/11.

You are so amazing doing all that in one year on top of everything else. I am most astounded by the bra, which you so breezily say is easy. I am going to take a look at that blog post now. Happy New Year, glad you made the lemon meringue again. x

Millie said...

Thanks Kath...The lemon meringue was sooo lovely...again! We had it Christmas day...it's a family favourite now.

I have been inspired and the dress patterns arrived in the post this morning! I have been wanting to make a dress for years and it might take me all of this year to complete but I am going to give it a try. Thank you x

I'm a bit late to comment here - but my goodness I'm impressed! What an incredible amount of beautiful things you have created! You could open a shop!
I'll forever be in awe of how you manage to find the time with 4 children in your life - I feel like I'm chasing my tail most of the time and I only have half the amount!
And if your little twinnies grow too quickly to fit into their lovely things I have a pair of little twinnies who are utter girlie girls for you to pass them on to!! ;)

Millie said...

Thank you Sadhbh...most of the time I am chsing my tail too, but sewing is an escape from all of that. I can happily ignore the mess that is being created, so long as I am sewing!
How lovely it must be to have real little girlie girls to dress...I miss that...my two are so opinionated...don't know where they get it from!

Wow you have had a really achieving year.
I was reading back through your blog and was inspired by the sweet rolled buns you made, and which would go down a treat with my farmer boy and three growing monsters. Sadly the link does not work and I wondered if you would put up or email me the recipe.
Yours hopefully Nick
