My Boy

Our boy turned 6, last Saturday. Instead of the usual family invitation for cake and coffee, he had two friends over to play. We had cake with them instead. The cake is from Nigella Lawson's book Feast. The mothers stayed while the boys played and Colm took a few hours off and joined us. We had a lovely afternoon, sitting outside, while the boys played with Lego and generally acted like boys! ie...shouted, tumbled, ran around and jumped off things!

His name is Tadhg and for those of you not familiar with the Irish language, it is pronounced Tye-g, and has apparently no true English version, but Timothy is the closest.

He was rather a large baby when he was born at 10lb 4oz (4.72kg, apparently)...

He has had problems with nightmares for the last few years and frequently came into our room in the middle of the night, until a couple of weeks ago. He also slept with a sheet/comfort blanket every night. A while before his birthday he told me he was ready to kick both habits! (Apparently the nightmares have lessened) And I am very proud to say he succeeded with both....

As he went to bed on his Birthday....We had a lot of this....

To get a photo like this..... sans spectacles
He is an incredibly curious boy and likes to know how things work. (unavoidable, I'm afraid, it's in his breeding)...he is brave and kind and we love him dearly.

Another Irish blogger - it's nice to meet you (there are so few of us). There seems to be great sewing going on here - lucky children to have such pretty things made for them. And their names are lovely.

Thanks Ravenhill...looking at the photos brings me right back! He was a great baby!

Beachgirl..thank you. The cake is typical Nigella Lawson..really messy but it tastes good!

Thanks Mise. I saw your name on a comment on Kitschy-coo and thought it was a strange name, with another possible meaning! Lovely to have found you, I know 3 other Irish bloggers, all of them sew too. I am fairly new to sewing, so I'm still learning.

The dresses for the girls look so very sweet and you did quite a job during labour and birth...

It seems to be a very busy time..lots of things finishing, like school and lots starting too. I'm sorry your children have been sick, and I hope they're better now.
We hav a lot of summer birthdays in our family...from grand-parents to little ones.
As for labour and birth...it's a good thing the memory of it fades quickly!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I hope that Tadgh had a wonderful birthday. It sure sounds nice. :))

He was indeed a big baby - my son weighed 4,120 kg when he was born and I thought that he was big. ;)

Your son sounds like such a sweet and clever boy - I definitely see why you are proud of him. :))

It was a lovely day...Thanks Ulla V.
We don't do small babies, well not single ones anyway! Your Emil was a big baby too. Isn't amazing how quickly they grow up! I know you know that better than anyone with Anne-Sophie.
Indeed, Tadhg is a great boy....thank you:)

MIllie lots has been happening for you. I am drooling over the pics of all the lovely cakes which have shown up in your pics about recent happenings in your life. The little girls dresses look very sweet. It is lovely to see you running around and enjoying summer while we are here beginning to hibernate...just a little.

Sending
Cee

Thanks Cee.
I know, it always amazes me when I visit your blog, to think we are in opposite seasons.
We are thoroughly enjoying our (wild) garden this year. We put doors to the garden from our kitchen and they are used all the time, and so is the garden.
The cakes are good simple tasty cakes, made time and again in this house for various birthdays... But always enjoyed!
