On Saturday I got some fabric for a top that I've been planning for a while. I had seen the fabric in my local shop some time ago, and finally gave in to temptation. It is cotton, but it is so fine! I was quite nervous working with it.
I had made a top before with Butterick 5328 and was very happy with it. I made a few small adjustments to the fit, but very minor. Also, this time I made it with 3/4 length sleeves.
I also made another top with a remnant of cotton jersey that I got a while ago, I'm not so happy with this one, I think it makes me look very 'Matronly'!
Any toughts!? It is Vogue V8390. But I probably made it a size too big, again!
I also made these, they might help with fitting into the bigger top, if I keep eating as many as I did today!
I read about them on this lovely blog and the recipe and the recipe is from this equally lovely blog. They're very good, just right for an after school snack. I really enjoyed the process of making them too. Not my usual one-step tray-bake!

I like the tops, both of them have turned out very nice I think.
And the Kanellbullar look yummie and delicious. Yes, making them is quite a thing, you have lots of time while the dough is resting under the pillow and standing on a hot-water-bottle.
A clever trick of Juliane is also to freeze the ones you don't eat and heat them while still frozen in the warm oven (100°C). They taste very good then as well.
Wow, I like your tops, they both look really nice! And so do these Swedish buns - I've already had a look at the blog and copied the recipe...:-)
Thanks Nina. Both tops will get plenty of wear.
That's funny how you make yours! I put mine in a different place each time they were proving. We have a cast-iron wood-burning Rayburn Range, and finding the right place for them near/in it was quite a trial!
I only said to husband last night that I thought they would freeze well! Thanks for the tip.
Thanks Nicole.. It is nice to have a few new tops.
The buns are very good. The kids all love them too, I'll be making them again, for sure.
hi, i came here through capers and olives. I love the lifestyle you are leading and would love to sew like you one day. I'm a mum of three children under 10yrs and live in Malta.
Hi Dina, lovely of you to leave such a nice comment. Lucky you too, living where you live! I'll take a longer look at your blog when the house is a bit quieter!
Hi Millie,
I love the tops. I can imagine you saying the purple one being a bit matronly, but the fabric and the pleats arer great. Maybe it will look different with another pant?
Finding the good size is difficult for me too. I guess we just have to keep trying.
Thanks Ria. I've made 'matronly' one before too. I think the other fabric works better though. I wear it with a skirt but it is not quite right either. I'm not tall, 164cm, I think it's for a taller person, and I usually make everything a size too big anyway. I think i need a new pattern for knits! As you say It's hard to get the fit right, It's also hard to get your body size/shape right in your head too!
